Biography
The Clerk and Master serves in the dual role of Clerk of the Chancery Court and Master in Chancery for the First Judicial District of Tennessee. As Clerk, Sarah Lawson acts as an officer of the Court. She exercises all of the duties and powers conferred upon clerks of court generally, which role is almost exclusively clerical, and law or orders of the Court strictly define the powers exercised. As Master, she is a judicial officer clothed with many of the powers of a Chancellor. There is no question of Law or Equity, or disputed fact, which the Clerk and Master may not have occasion to decide, or respecting which the Clerk and Master may not be called upon to report her opinion to the Court.
