The Washington County Veterans Service Office will be relocating from their current offices in the George Jaynes Justice Center to a larger space in the Historic Courthouse in Jonesborough within the next two weeks. Work is underway renovating the former election offices on the third floor of the Historic Courthouse in order to prepare for the veterans.

“This will provide the veterans with a much larger space and allow for growth of the veterans’ service work, said Mayor Joe Grandy. “They will now, again, be a part of the Washington County administrative offices in the Historic Courthouse.”

Grandy said the space, vacated at the at the George Jaynes Justice Center, will help relieve some of the overcrowded conditions now facing a specialty division of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

“We are planning on a smooth transition. We now have security in the Historic Courthouse. Every individual who needs ADA access to the building will have accessible parking, close to the entrance, and will be able to enter through the ground level, automated door and take the elevator to do business with the VSO and other county offices,” Grandy said.

The move is expected to be completed by November.
