[ARCHIVED] Washington County Tax Notices to Mail Early

Trustee Storey Drop Box

Washington County taxpayers will have more than two additional months to pay their taxes without interest penalty. Washington County Trustee Rick Storey says the tax bills will start mailing out this week.

“This provides more time for the taxpayers to pay their taxes and more time for them to look at the various payment options,” said Storey. “In the past, the tax bills would mail out in November when people are already busy with the holidays. Now people have two additional months to pay - the deadline to pay without penalty is still February 29, 2024.”

Storey outlined a number of payment options including paying in person or online.

He said taxpayers may mail payments, use the drop box at the back corner of the Historic Jonesborough Courthouse (111 East Main Street, Jonesborough) or use the drop box outside the Johnson City office (378 Marketplace Boulevard). They can also pay online (there are charges for payments made by credit cards).

Making a partial payment is also an option available for taxpayers. Tax relief options are available for qualified Elderly, Disabled, Disabled Veterans and Widow(er) of a Disabled Veteran.

Current tax relief participants will receive a yellow voucher in the mail within the next two weeks. Certain qualifications for new applicants are required including proof of ID and income, paid tax receipts, death certificates if the deceased is named on the deed and a title or bill of sale for mobile homes.

“With notices going out early, this will allow for citizens to budget payments over five months if they need to,” said Storey.

The Johnson City office located at 378 Marketplace Blvd will open Monday, September 18, 2023. Hours of both locations are Monday – Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30pm.

Storey said if people have questions, they are welcome to call the Trustee’s office at 423-753-1602.
