Now that days are shorter, evening visitors to Jonesborough may notice the beautiful green lights illuminating the courthouse. It’s a symbol of support for the men and women who selflessly served our country and this community in the Armed Forces.
The Washington County Commission and Washington County Mayor Joe Grandy showed their support of Operation Green Light for veterans with a proclamation at their October 24 meeting.
The proclamation declares that from October through Veterans Day, November 11, is a time to salute and honor the service and sacrifice of our men and women in uniform transitioning from Active Service.
“After reading a “Green Light” article in the National Association of Counties publication, our Veterans Service Officer, Jerry Story and I had a conversation with the Mayor about lighting up the Court House in the oldest town in Tennessee,” said Washington County Trustee and veteran Rick Storey. “The Washington County Commission approved a resolution in October 2022 supporting all veterans and this project.”
