The Washington County Board of County Commissioners will meet on Monday, January 26, 2026 at 6:00 pm in Courtroom 7 of the George P. Jaynes Justice Center, 108 W. Jackson Blvd., Jonesborough. During this meeting, the Board of County Commissioners will act to fill the vacancy in the Washington County Highway Department, specifically the Chief Administrative Officer (“Highway Superintendent”).
In order to be considered by the Board of County Commissioners, an applicant must be qualified under Tennessee law to serve as a Highway Superintendent (e.g. T.C.A. § 54-7-104). The Tennessee Highway Officials Certification Board reviews qualifications of candidates for the chief administrative office of a county highway department; applicants interested in submitting qualifications must contact Spenser Jones (spenser.jones@tnsos.gov).
In order for a qualified applicant to be considered by the Board of County Commissioners, a qualified applicant must be nominated by a County Commissioner, but registered voters may submit names to Chairman Matherly prior to the meeting or in person at the meeting. County Commissioner
