[ARCHIVED] Washington County Commissioners Tour Daniel Boone High School

Listening

Officials from the Washington County School Board and the Washington County Commission toured Daniel Boone High School Tuesday, November 12. It was part of their annual tour of area schools.

“This is a great opportunity for our County Commissioners and School Board members to walk through our schools in order to see up close, the tremendous things our school system does to benefit our kids,” said Washington County Commissioner Kenneth Huffine.  “It gives our public officials a real opportunity to see the work our school administrators and teachers are doing in our County Schools in order to prepare our students for either careers or post-secondary education,” he said.

“I really appreciate the Commission’s interest in our schools and going with us to see what the needs are,” said Annette Buchanan, Washington County School Board Chairwoman. “The shape of education has really changed over the last 10 years. Adding the certificate programs has really enabled our students to hit the ground running,” she said.

During the tour of Daniel Boone High School, Principal Stephanie Gray and Superintendent Jerry Boyd showed guests a number of different classrooms and areas of study. One highlight was meeting “Hank” the plug-in mannequin who is used in the Health Occupation Students of America, (HOSA) classes. Guests also saw students maneuver a digital cadaver on an Anatomage table in order to learn and understand anatomy.

The Daniel Boone Culinary Department provided guests with a delicious breakfast prepared by students, that included biscuits, coffee cake, yogurt parfaits and beverages.

Following their tour of Daniel Boone High School the visitors headed to David Crockett High School.
