PaulHarris (002)

Washington County 101 participants got in some good old fashioned Jonesborough storytelling after hearing from County officials and other leaders Tuesday, July 16 at the Historic Jonesborough Courthouse.

Paul Harris of the Heritage Alliance told tales to Washington County 101 class members after their second of four classes Tuesday evening July 16. Participants took an optional walk outside for some Jonesborough history on the courthouse steps. Harris regaled the class with stories of the Beans and Andy Jackson and frontier ways of settling disputes.

The main part of the evening consisted of a county government overview from Mayor Joe Grandy along with updates from: Jerry Story (Veterans Services), Rick Storey (Trustee), Cheryl Storey (Clerk), Teresa Bowman (Register of Deeds), Robbie McGuire (Assessor), Angie Charles

(Planning Director) and Donna Briggs (Archives).

The class meets at the George Jaynes Justice Center Tuesday, July 23 to learn about Justice and ends with a tour at the Sheriff’s Office Tuesday, July 30.

Washington County 101, now in its second year, is designed as an overview of county services in order to develop citizen awareness and understanding of the government’s role in the community. The objective is to provide residents with the information and background necessary to work together for the enhancement of our community.
