The first class of four sessions, for the Washington County 101 program, took place at the Washington County Health Department on Princeton Road in Johnson City Tuesday evening, July 9.  Class members heard from Elections Administrator Dana Jones, Washington County Health Department Director Sydney Butterfield, 9-1-1 Special Project Coordinator Randall Lewis, Washington County/Johnson City Emergency Management Agency Operations and Training Officer Kat Latham, and Washington County/Johnson City Emergency Medical Services Chief Dan Wheeley, Division Chief Lindsey Moore and Rescue Technician Lee Peace. Following a tour of the Health Department, program members had an opportunity for an up-close view of both an ambulance and a crash truck that were on display in the parking lot.

“The first night of Washington County 101 was a great opportunity to showcase our beautiful health department and all of the services it provides,” said Mayor Joe Grandy. “People always enjoy hearing from our Election Administrator.  This year we added something new with the three emergency agencies that provide lifesaving assistance to our citizens day in and day out, through joint funding by Washington County and Johnson City.”

Week two members will hear about the services available at Jonesborough’s Historic Courthouse. During week three, participants will learn about the court system at the George Jaynes Justice Center. The 4-week program concludes July 30 at the Sherriff’s office. Participants will receive certificates of completion during the August 26 Washington County Commission meeting.

Washington County 101, now in its second year, is designed as an overview of county services in order to develop citizen awareness and understanding of the government’s role in the community. The objective is to provide residents with the information and background necessary to work together for the enhancement of our community.  For more information and to view a slideshow from last year’s program please visit https://www.washingtoncountytn.org/DocumentCenter/View/1902/8-28-23-Washington-County-101-Slide-Show-PDF?bidId=
