The Washington County Election Commission gathered Tuesday, March 19 to certify the results of the March 5 Presidential primary. A total of 13,573 votes were cast during early voting and on “Super Tuesday,” accounting for 15% of the total registered voters in Washington County. That is the same percentage that voted in the May 2022 primary.

Election Administrator Dana Jones thanked the poll workers and poll watchers for their participation. Jones said the primary went smoothly, particularly since they were using new voting machines. Washington College Academy was added as a new, early voting location.

“We were 10th in voter turnout for early voting for the state of Tennessee and that held through election day. We are the 12th largest county in the state, so we outperformed expectations,” Jones added. Total voting in the state of Tennessee was 275,000 people out of a total of three million voters. Tennessee ranks number one in the country for election integrity for the second year in a row.

The voter registration deadline for the August 1 State and Federal Primary and State and County General Election is July 2. Deadline to register to vote in the November 5 state and Federal General Election is October 7.
