[ARCHIVED] Washington College Academy Added as New Voting Location

WashingtonCollege re

Early voting in the upcoming presidential primary starts February 14 and runs through February 27 in Washington County. Four voting locations will be available for voters to cast their ballots in the upcoming Presidential Primary Elections. Those locations are:

1. Johnson City Fire Station #8

2. Freedom Hall

3. Old Jonesborough Middle School

4. Washington College Academy (February 20-24 only)

Rural voters in the western part of the County will be able to vote close to home. From Tuesday, February 20 through Saturday, February 24 Washington College Academy will be available as a voting location in Commission District 2.

“We want this election to be successful,” said Washington County Elections Administrator Dana Jones. “With the addition of Washington College Academy as a voting site, the 88,000 registered voters in Washington County will be able to get to a poll within a 15-minute drive,” Jones said.

District 2 Commissioner Marty Johnson says this is a positive move for voters in his district.

“After having to close three precincts in District 2, it put a lot of stress on the West View precinct and voters on Election Day,” said District 2 Washington County Commissioner Marty Johnson. “I expressed my concerns to Dana Jones, and she, and the Election Commission, were very responsive. They started working diligently to overcome the obstacles to open this early

voting site to better serve the voters in our rural part of the county. This is a great first step and we’re all very excited to see it up and running,” said Johnson.

For those who miss early voting, the Presidential Primary Election Day is Tuesday, March 5. Jones encourages voters to vote early since you never know what March weather in Tennessee will be like on any given day.

Tennessee ranks number one in the United States for Election Integrity. Jones said that a vote in Washington County is a secure vote, and she is happy to talk with anyone who has safety or security questions. For more information, the County Election website can be found https://wcecoffice.com/.
